Goal of Best-in-State Gymnasium Achieved with Metal-Clad Exterior
High school construction and renovation projects in rapidly expanding communities often are undertaken with a strong sense of civic pride to emphasize a city’s new importance. This was the motivation leaders with the Agua Fria Union School District in Goodyear, Arizona, had when they described their goals for a new gymnasium, built in tandem with a significant renovation, for the 1,965-student Millennium High School. Their stated goal was to make the facility the most sought-after in the state, a goal they just might have achieved. The structure’s forward-looking design begins with its exterior, where metal wall panels are arranged in a complex pattern that helps break up the mass of the 45,000-square-foot structure and sets it apart from the typical high school gym.
